Coat Hook concepts, Gradings, Preliminary Designs, Final 3D models, and Printed models

The film really spoke to me and helped me figure out what I wanted to do for this project. Whilst watching the film I was actively drawing out ideas. The minimalistic design was heavily influencd by Objectified, as that what the main idea was. I think that I managed to capture all the main ideas brought forward in the film through my designs.

I think that my designs are very functional, and relatively aesthetically pleasing. I also wanted to make sure that they are easy to instaqll, so I drew on screws where screwholes would be. My designs are also pretty simple, makigng them easy to print and mass produce. All of my designs I made based off what Dieter Rams said a good design was: I made the designs as little designed as possible, was consistent in my design, made them structurally stable as to be longlived, they are flat and unobtrusive, aesthetica and pleasing to look at, and useful.

This assignment was really interesting becasue it made me look at the design process diferently, by teaching me all the different things I should be3 looking at and trying to incorporate in my designs when trying to make something. All in all I liked playing around with different designs, and I can;t wait to see what my final rendition will look like.

I chose to move forward with design 4 and also design 1.  I chose design 4 because I really like the concept and think it could look really cool. Also, everyone seemed to like it too. I got a cool idea for design 1 to make it look as if it were a piece of metal being peeled away.

Here are the work - in - progress designs:

Throughout my design process I wanted to make an aesthetic design, yes, but more so I wanted to make a design that will hold up and be sturdy when hanging clothes. This can be seen throughout my designs, as they are aesthetically pleasing but also have a sturdy base from which the actual hanger part comes from.

For the cactus design I had a little trouble making the base as it isn't a geometric shape but more of a sculpted, abstract cactus design. This was a little tricky to replicat, but once I got the base the actual hanger portion wasn't too har to make.

I decicded to do two different clothes hangers for this project because I liked both concepts and couldn't choose between them. This design was much easier to make and I really like how it came out.
